Beautiful Baby Ava

Newborn baby Ava is such a sweet little peanut and is as soft as she looks. She really wanted to spend the afternoon cuddled up with Mom but finally gave in the sleepies to give us some great shots. Thanks to Kelly and Joe for your patience…good things came as a result!

Technically Speaking

Jane and Joey have the longest eyelashes I have ever seen. With a bat of their beautiful eyes, the world is their oyster. They can thank Julie, their Mom, for that gift.

Seeing as how their Dad, Nick, and I talked shop for a good while after their shoot, I am going to do something a little different and talk about lenses and settings for a little in this post.

In this first shot I wanted to capture the stunning thickness of Joey’s eyelashes and his little round cheeks. Using a 50mm 1.4 lens and shooting at f/2.2 @ 1/2500 I was able to get a crisp shot of the cheek and eyelashes and allow the remainder of his body to blur away.

The portraits of the kids were shot at f/1.8 or f/2.2 @ 1/800 using the same lens. I moved back about 3 feet from the kids to allow some room for their full faces and to get a nice portrait with a lot of bokeh.

The rest of the images were shot using my workhorse lens, the 70-200 2.8L. All of the images were shot at f/2.8 to keep the subjects in focus but blur the background.

Just a quick note here…notice Jane’s finger poking Joey in the second image…I love kids and the super cute things that they do.

Welcome Baby Ruby

It’s easy to see why Tara and Clark are so in love with their baby girl, Ruby. She’s soft and perfectly precious, just as a newborn baby should be. At only 17 days old, she already enjoyed being the center of attention.

About a year ago, I got a chance to photograph newborn baby Heidi. I was so impressed with how her big brother Owen was able to hold her so well and with such love and gentleness and now a year later he still shows her the same love and affection.

Big Brother, Twice as Lucky

Collin wished for a sibling to play cars with and struck gold…he got both a brother and a sister! His family is now complete with plenty of people to zoom around the living room with (when they can hold their heads up, of course.)

Cameron and Charis kept me laughing the entire time I photographed them. They have a million different adorable expressions.

Snapshots of ordinary life are my most favorite images.
